Well we have trawled a bit, imagined a bit and read a bit so we pose some questions;
What would Apple build their new debt-maker out of? Plastic would not do for a gadget that is bound to send you toward the poorhouse; perhaps an alloy or one of the many fancy carbon fibre based products available now. Would all of this allow the iPhone 7 to be thinner than ever?
If it is made from a new exotic material could it come fully waterproof not just resistant?
What could the company do with those awful antenna lines at the back – hopefully find a material that would cover them and give a smooth, sylph-like rear. If we want smooth and sylph-like then can we not separate the ear phones from the iPhone altogether? No bulky wires and connectors. This must go for charging as well – why can the iPhone not slake its electrical thirst via the induction route? Just lay it down and leave it to drink up!
How about upgraded storage; this is bound to be a no brainer and 3GB RAM to match the Android offerings would have to be just the thing. Speculation abounds that it could come with 256GB of internal storage and a 3100mAh battery.
Could there be a twin camera as per its latest patent application? Think of how a dual camera that can record a standard video along with slow motion footage of the same thing and then edit them together would enhance that cricket or football match? Wouldn’t the kids love to see this after their Little League game?
What about removing the home button altogether and having a seamless full frontal screen? Move the fingerprint reader to the back but it seems more likely that it will sit in one position on the front. Speaking of the front how about taking a leaf from the Apple Watch and using scratch resistant sapphire glass? Surely a company the size of Apple could resolve the supply issues around creating tons of clear crystal glass.
Pushing the resolution boundary would be nice, lots more pixels would help and what about OLED instead of LED?
Having dreamed about what we would like in it how about what it should look like and here are some of the tamer and more realistic ideas of how the new wallet-buster could look. We have to hope that Apple will realise that consumers want a device that blows their minds both in looks and functionality – Apple must upgrade how the outside looks as much as the inside.
The first look is courtesy of Eric Huisman. Clean, sylph-like and no antenna at the back. Three different sizes to fit all pockets. A firm favourite but not that different from now surely Apple could do more?
This concept by Afikouras is more to our liking. No antenna lines on the back and no home button so the screen covers the front. Excellent stuff.
Look at this design by Martin Hajek . Edge to edge touch screen could mean a smaller phone but still allow a large screen. Like this one we do!
Lets take the concept to its logical conclusion and have the whole front of the phone as a screen. Designer Marek Weidlichhas done just that.
And now the ultimate – full screen and all the bezels gone. Does Apple have the courage to try and make this work. ConceptsiPhone certainly hope they will with this design.
How about this for elegance? Stainless steel case, antenna in a band sunk into the rim of the back, protruding camera gone, and the fingerprint reader is now on the side with the home button. Designer Grisher Serov has produced an elegant design.
Yasser Farah has produced a design that anyone would be proud of but he would like to see the sapphire glass and we know the supply issues around that. This minimalist design should appeal to Apple’s boardroom as well as consumers everywhere. .
